Research
Katrin Menzel has been working at the University of Mannheim since August 2024. After covering an interim professorship for English Linguistics/
Diachrony (Anglistik IV – Prof. Dr. Carola Trips) in the fall/ winter semester of 2024, she will be supported by a start-up funding from the University of Mannheim for her corpus-linguistic research project on the topic of “Late Modern English scientific translations” in the spring/ summer semester of 2025. Her research in the field of Applied Linguistics and English Linguistics focuses on the history of the English language since the 17th century, English word formation, corpus linguistics, and translation studies. Katrin Menzel completed her doctorate in 2017 at the University of Saarbrücken, where she also graduated with degrees in interpreting and translation (English, French, minor subject: law). During her studies, she was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and spent an exchange year at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD dissertation focussed on a corpus linguistic study of cohesive devices in English and German.
From 2011 to 2024, Katrin Menzel worked at the Department of Language Science and Technology at Saarland University, where she submitted her habilitation thesis “Word-formation patterns in specialised Late Modern and Present-day English – corpus-based and contrastive approaches” in the spring of 2024 (Habilitation colloquium in December 2024).
In 2023, Katrin Menzel took over an interim professorship for English Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Department of Linguistics and Language Technology at Saarland University. In the fall/winter semester of 2024, she held an interim professorship for English Linguistics/ Diachrony (Anglistik IV – Prof. Dr. Carola Trips) in Mannheim. Teaching
