  • Research

    Katrin Menzel has been deputising for Prof. Dr Carola Trips at the Chair of English Linguistics/Diachrony (English Studies IV) at the University of Mannheim since August 2024. Her research in the field of Applied Linguistics and English Linguistics focuses on the history of the English language since the 17th century, English word formation, corpus linguistics and translation studies.


    From 2011 to 2024, she worked at the Department of Linguistics and Language Technology at Saarland University.

  • Biographic Information

    Katrin Menzel completed her doctorate in 2017 at the University of Saarbrücken, where she also graduated with a degree in interpreting and translation (English, French, minor subject: law). During her studies, she was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and spent an exchange year at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge. Her dissertation focussed on a corpus linguistic study of cohesive devices in English and German.


    In the summer semester of 2023, Katrin Menzel took over a professorship for English Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Department of Linguistics and Language Technology at Saarland University.


    In May 2024, she submitted her habilitation thesis “Word-formation patterns in specialised Late Modern and Present-day English – corpus-based and contrastive approaches” in Saarbrücken.

  • Teaching

    Katrin Menzel currently teaches courses in Mannheim on methods of linguistics (data analysis and visualisation with MATLAB), on English language history (Late Modern English, ca. 1700-1900) and on morphology and word formation.
