Elena Salakhyan has obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Yuryi Fedkovitch National University in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, and her M.Phil. degree in English and Applied Linguistics from RCEAL, University of Cambridge in 2004. She finished her doctoral dissertation on English as a Lingua Franca at the University of Tübingen in 2014. As a research fellow in Tübingen and an adjunct lecturer at the University of Stuttgart she has taught courses on the Introduction to English Pragmatics, Figurative Language, the Acquisition of Figurative Language by a Bilingual Child, Discourse Analysis, and Second Language Acquisition from a sociolinguistic perspective. Her research interests include: English as a Lingua Franca, World Englishes, Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism.
Since June 2020, Elena Salakhyan has been a research fellow at the University of Mannheim. She has been working in a project of PD Dr. Agnieszka Ewa Krautz on lexical creativity of multilingual speakers.
