Annika Gonnermann is doctoral student at the chair of English Literary and Cultural Studies (AII) at the University of Mannheim, Germany. She received her BA and MA at the University of Heidelberg, where she studied both English Studies and Political Sciences. In her PhD-project, she specializes in Utopian and Dystopian literature, focusing on contemporary novels from Britain and America. She combines criticism of capitalism with network theory and – standing in the tradition of the Frankfurt School – the question about what constitutes a good life. Moreover, her research interests include Gothic literature, contemporary TV series, superhero narratives, and popular culture in cinema and TV.
