David Suderland is an academic staff member and doctoral student at the chair of Prof. Angela Keppler. In 2015 he graduated in Sociology and American Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.
In his dissertation he studies how everyday conversations change through the ubiquity of mobile communication technologies. Using ethnometodological conversation analysis based on audio and video recordings of everyday conversations he aims to answer in what ways smartphones are used as a resource in face-to-face interactions.
He is teaching interpretative methods of empirical social science, e.g. ethnometodological conversation analysis, “digital” conversation analysis and qualitative interviews.
