Dr Şengül Çelik is an academic staff member at the Chair of Philosophy II. Her research areas are ethics, applied ethics, contemporary Turkish thinkers, and women studies.
In 1996, she graduated from Middle-East Technical University, Ankara with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (major) and political sciences (minor). She obtained her master’s degree in 1999 with a thesis on ontology. In May 2008 she finished her doctoral studies at Middle-East Technical University, Ankara with a dissertation on ethics.
Between 2005 and 2013 Ms Çelik worked at Fatih University, Istanbul. Here she was assistant professor at the Philosophy Department for five years and was habilitated in 2013. During this period, she worked on a research project about contemporary Turkish philosophers under the supervision of Prof. Ahmet Inam. The project was financed by the Middle-East Technical University and the Development Agency of the Turkish government.
From 2013 until 2017 Ms Çelik worked at Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul. She received a research grant from Yıldız Technical University for her research on abortion. Ms Çelik has given seminars on women issues all over the world and participated in the 56th session of the UN Commission on the status of women as an expert for an NGO.
Since 2019 she has been working at the University of Mannheim.
