Leibniz Institute for the German Language

Teaching at the sub-department of German Linguistics is not only carried out by the university chair, but also by Prof. Dr. Henning Lobin, the director of the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (Leibniz-Instituts für Deutsche Sprache (IDS)) Mannheim, and the four Heads of the departments of “Grammar” (Prof. Dr. Angelika Wöllstein), “Lexical Studies” (Prof.Dr. Stefan Engelberg), “Pragmatics” (Prof. Dr. Arnulf Deppermann) and “Digital Linguistics” (Prof. Dr. Andreas Witt) as well as academic staff members of the IDS.

Due to the close institutional connection between the chair of “German Linguistics” and the Leibniz Institute for the German Language, teaching at the University of Mannheim is distinguished by its thematic diversity and its focus on research-oriented teaching.

Furthermore, students have the chance to gain insights into linguistic research as the different departments at the IDS regularly offer student assistant jobs and internships.
