PD Dr. Patrick Brandt

Since the 1stof October 2013, PD Dr. Patrick Brandt has been an Academic Staff Member at the Department of “Grammar” at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language where he is working in the “Corpus grammar” project group.  

Brandt studied German and English Philology at the University of Göttingen and received a doctorate from the University of Utrecht (Ph.D.) 

He worked as an assistant professor at the Universities of Utrecht, Kwazulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa), Frankfurt am Main and Cologne and held replacement professorships in General Linguistics and German Linguistics at the Universities of Bielefeld and Constance. Brandt habilitated in German Linguistics at the University of Mannheim.

His research interests focus on:   

  • Morphology 
  • Syntax
  • Semantics
  • Pragmatics
