Dr. Janine N. Blessing is a member of the SNF project “Alternative Media, Alternative Norms?”, which is based at the Institute for Communication Science and Media Research at the University of Zurich (IKMZ).
Previously, she was a research assistant at the Institute for Media, Knowledge, and Communication at the University of Augsburg, with research stays at Penn State University, USA, among others. She completed her doctorate in July 2024. In her dissertation, she examined how journalistic science reporting on new technologies in the medical field (e.g., mRNA vaccines or brain-computer interfaces) affects the risk perception of recipients and their intention to engage further with the innovation. 
Her research focuses on media effects in the fields of science, health, and the environment. Among other things, she focuses on risk perception, follow-up behavior (e.g., information seeking, follow-up communication), and the influence of emotions.
