Forschung am LS Philosophie II

Die Forschung am Lehrstuhl Philosophie II befasst sich schwerpunktmäßig mit Themen der Praktischen Philosophie, vor allem aber mit Themen der angewandten Ethik. Im Fokus stehen dabei inbesondere Fragen der Unternehmens- und Wirtschaftsethik sowie der Umwelt- und Klimaethik. Zudem forschen wir zur Geschichte der Philosophie, insbesondere zur Philosophie der Neuzeit.
Ein besonderer Forschungschwerpunkt von Professor Gesang ist das Themengebiet Nachhaltigkeit und ihre demokratische Umsetzung (vgl. auch das abgeschlossene Projekt „Zukunftsanwälte“).

Wild Animal Suffering and Laissez-faire Intuition

In his PhD thesis, Beka Jalagania addresses questions concerning the ethics of wild animal suffering. The thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the view, called the Laissez-faire Intuition, that we are not required to assist wild animals. In contrast to this view, the thesis makes the case for assisting wild animals in their struggle to live lives free from suffering and provides a theoretical ground for an ethically justified intervention in nature.
