The public University of Hradec Králové (UHK), located in the north of the Czech Republic, is the perfect place for all those who want to study far away from the popular, yet over-crowded megacities and who want to get to know a special place that is somewhat different.
University and Campus
The university has about 9,000 students and attracts more than 100 exchange students every year. 75 percent of the courses to be taken must be selected from the course program of the UHK School of Humanities, while 25 percent may be chosen freely. The language of instruction is English or optionally Czech.
International students are mentored by Czech members of the buddy program and may rent accommodation on the university campus for about 110 EUR per month. In addition, the university offers various city excursions for international students. On campus, there are volleyball, basketball, and tennis fields as well as a gym and music rooms.
The City – Hradec Králové
The city is located where the rivers Elbe and Adler confluence. Hradec Králové is the perfect location for excursions: Prague is only 110 km away and it only takes you an one hour drive to get to Krkonoše, the Giant Mountains. With its breathtaking canyons, glacial valleys, mountain meadows, and waterfalls, the national park Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP) is always worth a visit. The lively student town with its beautiful architecture is divided into new and old town.
To do's in Hradec Králové:
- The historic old town is situated on a mighty rocky hill, providing not only interesting historic buildings but also sepctacular views.
- Hradec Králové has many parks to take a walk or relax.
- Numerous music and theater festivals take place in Hradec Králové throughout the year (e.g. the famous Hip Hop Kemp).
- Located on the two rivers Elbe and Adler, the city offers a perfect environment for cycling and swimming!
Who can apply for this exchange program?
Students of all bachelor's, master’s, and teacher education programs in History are eligible to participate in the exchange program.
