Czech Republic: University of Hradec Králové (UHK)

Spotlight: This is the University of Hradec Králové – Gain useful insights, facts, and insider-information about our partner university in Hradec Králové

The public University of Hradec Králové (UHK), located in the north of the Czech Republic, is the perfect place for all those who want to study far away from the popular, yet over-crowded megacities and who want to get to know a special place that is somewhat different.

The university has about 9,000 students and attracts more than 100 exchange students every year. 75% of the courses to be taken must be selected from the course program of the UHK School of Humanities, while 25% may be chosen freely. The language of instruction is English or optionally Czech.

International students are mentored by Czech members of the buddy program and may rent accommodation on the university campus for about 110 EUR per month. In addition, the university offers various city excursions for international students. On campus, there are volleyball, basketball, and tennis fields as well as a gym and music rooms.

The city is located where the rivers Elbe and Adler confluence. Hradec Králové is the perfect location for excursions: Prague is only 110 km away and it only takes you an one hour drive to get to Krkonoše, the Giant Mountains. With its breathtaking canyons, glacial valleys, mountain meadows, and waterfalls, the national park Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP) is always worth a visit.

The lively student town Hradec Králové with its beautiful architecture is divided into new and old town. The historic old town is situated on a mighty rocky hill. Hradec Králové has many parks and numerous music and theater festivals take place throughout the year (e.g. the famous Hip Hop Kemp). Located on the two rivers Elbe and Adler, the city offers a perfect environment for cycling and swimming!

Students of all bachelor's, master’s, and teacher education programs in History are eligible to participate in the exchange program.

The application deadline is 31 January!
