Research

Research at the School of Humanities is characterized by the collaboration between researchers from different disciplines of the Humanities. It is distinguished by its international and interdisciplinary orientation. Training early-stage researchers is another key strength of the School of Humanities: Around 180 doctoral candidates are currently working on their doctoral theses in one of the subjects taught at the School.

Research focus

Three interdisciplinary research foci have been established at the School of Humanities, shaping the School' s scientific profile:

Digital communication and changes in the Humanities

Migration, social diversity, and multilingualism

Culture and economy within the context of ongoing globalization

The individual research projects of students and researchers in the Humanities at the University of Mannheim deal, for example, with digital humanities, migration and multilingualism, the culture of change, or the urban, regional, and state history of Mannheim and the southwestern part of Germany.

Project descriptions and information on the respective researchers involved can be found on the pages of the individual departments and chairs.
