Global Sustainability Management in the Master’s Program “Culture and Economy”

Embed sustainability management into your study program

History and Philosophy are more than theory. The new certificate program in Global Sustainability Management (GSM) allows you to enhance your academic profile in History or Philosophy with future-oriented sustainability skills. GSM is co-developed and co-taught by European experts in the ENGAGE.EU university alliance. The program is aimed at particularly committed students from all ENGAGE.EU partner universities and is designed for a small, highly motivated cohort. Participation requires an application including a letter of motivation.

You will merge your humanities perspectives with hands-on knowledge in the field of sustainability. During the GSM program you will have the opportunity to connect with excellent academics and sustainability practice leaders. This will open up access to professional fields in which the ability to reflect and strategic and critical thinking are required: NGOs, public institutions, companies or in science communication.

GSM is an international, interdisciplinary and challenge-based program. You will work on real-life challenges, participate in bootcamps and simulation projects and other immersive learning formats to create a seamless learning experience. All activities are closely integrated and linked to the MAKUWI curriculum: You will earn part of your ECTS credits for the MAKUWI program through the GSM. The courses completed as part of the certificate program can be partially or even fully integrated into your Master’s Culture and Business program.

The specialization option GSM will be offered for students of the master's programs Culture and Business in Philosophy and History with a minor in business starting in the spring semester of 2026.
