Since November 2021 Elena Esposito is a doctoral student in Greek and Roman Civilizations at Università degli Studi Roma Tre (Rome, Italy). She completed her B.A. in Classics at Università degli Studi Roma Tre in 2018 and her M.A. in Classical Cultures at both Università degli Studi Roma Tre and Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in 2021, thanks to a double-degree program.

In the frame of her doctoral studies, she spent four months at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens and three months as visiting PhD student at Universität Mannheim, where her research was funded by the DAAD scholarship program “STIBET-Doktoranden”.

Her dissertation project, titled “Gli allenatori nel mondo greco: per un’indagine prosopografica, istituzionale e sociale sui paidotribai” and supervised by Prof. Roberta Fabiani and Prof. Christian Mann, investigates the figure of ancient Greek trainers. Through a systematic and careful analysis of inscriptions and literary sources, the aim of the research is to shed light on features, duties, functions, and social and economic position of the athletic trainers, paying attention to the evolution of this profession through centuries, from the Classical to the Imperial time.
