Karlstad University, Sweden

Karlstad University is a relatively young university, which was granted full university status only in 1999. Approximately 16,000 students are studying at Karlstad University – this makes Karlstad a student city as every tenth person is a university student. With about 700 courses, everybody will find something of interest.

I studied at Karlstad University in autumn 2018. As most courses are taught in English, students can choose from a broad range. I took courses from the intercultural module and learned some Swedish. There are also many cheap sports activities offered by the university. Exchange students are granted a room at the “student village” which is only 15 minutes by foot to university.

Karlstad, with its large seas and beautiful nature, is a wonderful destination to spend a semester abroad. Karlstad is located roughly in the middle between Stockholm and Oslo and, therefore, an ideal base for trips all over both countries. Various activities like canoeing or ice-skating are free of charge in Sweden.
