University of Ottawa, Canada

The University of Ottawa is a bilingual University in Ontario. It was established in 1848 and is located in the heart of Canada’s capital. Parliament Hill, the Supreme Court, the Byward Market, and the Rideau Canal are all within walking distance. If you are more into nature, you only need to take the bus and you will find yourself in Gatineau Park. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor adventure or an urban student lifestyle – uOttawa has both to offer.

I spent one semester in fall 2017 in Ottawa and would not hesitate to go back! The uOttawa offers a broad variety of courses in both French and English. I attended classes for my intercultural module, a seminar in linguistics and a French language course. The teaching atmosphere is very motivating and encourages students to get involved in hands-on projects. The student life at uOttawa offers you also plenty of extracurricular activities – ranging from a Welcome Week full of events to Football and Ice hockey games where you can cheer for the University’s varsity team, the Gee-Gees, to a sports program with drop-in activities for everyone.

Off campus, Ottawa provides you with the bustle of a capital city, the charm of a small town, and great possibilities for outdoor adventures. The campus is located in the center of the city and you can easily walk from here to one of Ottawa’s many museums or Parliament Hill. During your semester abroad you shouldn’t miss Canada’s great nature. Take the bus to Gatineau Park to experience the colorful Indian summer in autumn, visit the Algonquin Provincial Park in your reading week or join one of the University’s excursions to various destinations in the region.
