Lisa Schwander is academic staff member and doctoral student at the chair of English Literature and Culture (Anglistik II). She holds a degree in English Studies, German Studies and History (Staatsexamen) from the University of Heidelberg. Her dissertation project Postcolonial Romance and Transcultural Modernity(ies) analyses the function of romance in the work of Amitav Ghosh and Kamila Shamsie. She shows that romance is central to both authors’ engagement with global modernity as well as to their attempts to envision alternative futures. She has taught seminars on postcolonial topics, contemporary British literature, as well as genre or period introductions.
