B.A. Romance Languages, Literatures and Media
The special feature of this four-year bachelor’s program in Romance Languages, Literatures and Media is that you will learn two Romance languages: French and Spanish or French and Italian or Spanish and Italian. By thoroughly dealing with linguistic, literal and cultural issues, you will become a cultural expert of the respecting language areas.
Within the scope of the period of study abroad at one of our partner universities during your third year of study, which is an integral part of the program, you will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the cultures of the different countries where Romance languages are spoken and develop both your intercultural competencies and your subject knowledge.
The project module allows you to put your theoretical knowledge into practice. Moreover, you will get an insight into the different fields of study of a Romance philologist. You will deal for example with the organization and realization of a cultural event or a scientific conference.
In the course of your program of study you will either decide for the scientific or the practical module. In the scientific module you will prepare yourself for an academic career, allowing you to continue your studies with a doctorate. The practical module, on the other hand, will prepare you for career outside the university: You will complete practice-oriented seminars and internships.

Here, you will find an exact description of the contents respecting each course of your program and the skills you will have acquired once you have completed the course. This information is important if you are going to take courses at another university (e.g. during a semester abroad) or have taken courses at another university in the past (preparatory studies) and are planning on having the ECTS credits already obtained recognized for your program of study. Please consider that there may be different versions of the module catalogs for each program of study depending on the start of the program (due to changes in the examination regulations).

Exemplary degree plan
This degree plan only serves as an example of how you can successfully complete your program of study in six semesters. You can decide on the order in which you would like to take the courses and examinations of the program, but you should be mindful of taking the examinations that are relevant for the orientation examination within the first three semesters. Please keep in mind that some courses are only offered either in the fall semester or in the spring semester (for further information click on Portal²).
Proof of language proficiency (admission requirements)
Students of the bachelor’s program in Romance Languages need to have a very good level of German language proficiency; a good command of one of the languages you will be studying as part of your program (French, Italian or Spanish) is strongly recommended (but no requirement).
Period of study abroad
Studying abroad always helps you grow personally and professionally. And there is no better place to learn a foreign language than the country where the language is spoken.
For students of the bachelor’s program in Romance Languages, Literatures and Media it is compulsory to spend a stay abroad in the fifth and sixth semester. During your program of study at one of our partner universities you will already specialize and choose your subject focus. Therefore it is recommended for you to carefully consider your course selection in advance and to get subject-specific academic advice. Internship
The program includes a mandatory internship of ten weeks that you can complete either in Germany or abroad (full-time 35 hours/
week or part time with a total of 350 hours). We are happy to help you find a suitable internship. Final module
After your graduation
Graduates of the bachelor’s program in Romance Languages, Literatures and Media have the necessary qualification to start a professional career in the communication and culture industry. This includes careers in the areas of media/
social media, (business) journalism, editing, publishing, university management, education, economics or politics. Ideally, you will gain first work experience during your program of study that helps you make the right career choice after graduation.
