Kathrin Schmitt ist seit Februar 2023 Akademische Mitarbeiterin und Doktorandin der Abteilung Literatur- und Medien­wissenschaften am Lehr­stuhl von Prof. Dr. Claudia Gronemann.
Von 2017–2022 studierte sie Kultur und Wirtschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Hispanistik und dem Nebenfach Betriebs­wirtschafts­lehre an der Universität in Mannheim. Während ihres gesamten Master­studiums, ab 2020, war sie als wissenschaft­liche Hilfskraft bei Prof. Dr. Claudia Gronemann tätig. Das Studium schloss sie mit ihrer Master­arbeit ab, in der sie den spanischen Roman Nada von Carmen Laforet unter (neo-)pikaresken Gesichtspunkten untersuchte, wobei sie den  Schwerpunkt der Arbeit auf das Hungermotiv legte.
Kathrin Schmitt promoviert derzeit zu dem Wandel der Mutterfigur in der zeitgenössischen lateinamerikanischen Literatur, den sie u.a. unter biopolitischen Fragestellungen betrachtet. Weitere besondere Forschungs­interessen liegen in Frauenbildern in der maghrebinischen Literatur und deren Aktualisierung in modernen Kontexten.

Kathrin Schmitt is Academic Staff Member and doctoral student at the Department of Romance Languages: Literature and Media of the University of Mannheim (Chair of Prof. Dr. Claudia Gronemann). From 2017 to 2022 she studied Culture and Economy with a focus on Hispanic language and literature at the University of Mannheim. From 2020 to 2023 she worked there as a Research Assistant (Chair of Prof. Dr. Claudia Gronemann). She completed her studies with her Master's thesis, in which she examined the Spanish novel Nada written by Carmen Laforet from a (neo-)picaresque point of view, focusing on the hunger motif.
Currently she is working on her doctorate on the topic of regretted motherhood in Latin American literature and is looking at the changes that can be observed in the representation of the figure of the mother. In this regard, she also researches the links between gender, public discourse and biopolitical issues. Other special research interests of hers include the imagery of women in contemporary Maghrebian literature and their use in modern contexts.
