Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies module
In the Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies module, students can choose from courses in cultural studies from all departments of the School of Humanities. This selection of courses is expanded by the English-language International Cultural Studies (ICS) courses that serve to compare different cultural areas.
It is strongly recommended that students take the Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies module during their semester abroad, as, due to their thematic diversity, recognition of the courses taken is easiest then.
If you take the Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies module at the University of Mannheim, you have to attend one additional course of your choice in the bachelor's program in Culture and Economy and two additional courses of your choice in the bachelor's programs in Media and Communications Studies and History in addition to the mandatory ICS lecture (only offered in the fall semester). You can only attend those courses that have been explicitly assigned to the Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies module and that are not offered in the subject of your major or minor.
Internship
The program includes a mandatory internship of six weeks (full-time 35 hours/
week or part time with a total of at least 210 hours). We recommend that you also complete a longer internship in a potential professional field during your studies – either in Germany or abroad. We are happy to help you find a suitable internship.

Stay abroad
Studying abroad always helps you grow personally and professionally. And there is no better place to learn a foreign language than the country where the language is spoken. Don’t miss this great opportunity! Ideally you should plan your semester abroad for the fifth semester; however, a stay abroad during the spring semester (fourth or sixth semester) is also possible. We will help you plan your stay abroad and will be happy to advise you – whether you plan a semester abroad or an internship abroad.
Final module
After your graduation
Graduates of the bachelor's program in Culture and Economy have the necessary qualification to start a career in both the cultural and the business sector, for example in the areas of public relations, social media, journalism, media industry or marketing, (project) management or consulting.
