Forschungsinteressen
Dr. Sina Schuhmaiers Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf Ansätzen der Postcolonial Studies und der Cultural Studies, insbesondere hinsichtlich nationaler und kultureller Identität, sowie auf der Gattung des Songtextes, britischer Gegenwartsliteratur und dem Feld der Black British literature. In ihrer Dissertationsschrift untersucht sie zeitgenössische britische Songtexte im Dialog von Literaturwissenschaft und Popular Music Studies. Die Arbeit versteht sich als Beitrag zu dem wachsenden Feld der Critical Englishness Studies und beleuchtet die kulturellen Wirkweisen des Songtextes vor dem Hintergrund des vorherrschenden Diskurses um Nation.

Biografische Informationen
Dr. Sina Schuhmaier ist seit 2017 akademische Mitarbeiterin und Doktorandin am Lehrstuhl für Anglistische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft (A II). Nach einem Bachelorstudium der Anglistik an den Universitäten Heidelberg und Nottingham studierte sie von 2015 bis 2017 an der Universität Mannheim im Masterstudiengang „Literatur, Medien und Kultur der Moderne“. Ihre Dissertation zum Thema „Dominant and Dissonant Discourses of the Nation: Pop Music, the Song Lyric, and Englishness in the 21st Century“ reichte sie im September 2023 ein. Im Rahmen der Dissertation verbrachte sie im Frühjahr 2022 einen dreimonatigen Forschungsaufenthalt an der University of Bristol.
Lehre
Sina Schuhmaiers Lehre umfasst anglophone Literatur verschiedener Epochen, mit einem Schwerpunkt auf britischer Gegenwartsliteratur und postkolonialer Literatur. Das Lehrangebot deckt insbesondere die Gattungen Roman und Lyrik ab, behandelt aber auch immer wieder multimediale Formen wie den Songtext und die Fernsehserie. Literatur wird hier als Medium kultureller Selbstreflektion vermittelt, welches beispielsweise Diskurse um Nation, das British Empire und Identität verhandelt.
