Stefanie Schäfer ist Professorin für amerikanische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft. Ihre Forschung widmet sich Figurationen des Nationalen in den USA und Kanada, mit aktuellen Projekten zu First Ladies, zu europäischen Westernmythen und Cowgirls, sowie zu Populismus und Celebrity Culture in der US-Politik in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Ihre Habilitationsschrift Yankee Yarns. Storytelling and the Invention of the National Body in 19th-Century US Culture wurde 2021 in der Reihe „Critical Studies in Atlantic Literatures and Culture“ der Edinburgh University Press veröffentlicht. Zu ihren jüngsten und kommenden Veröffentlichungen gehören unter anderem der Sammelband Ladies in Arms. Women, Guns, and Feminisms in Contemporary Populare Culture (transcript, 2024, open access, zusammen mit Teresa Hiergeist), zwei Veröffentlichungen zu Greta Gerwigs Film Barbie (2024, zusammen mit Katharina Gerund, 2025) und ein Beitrag zum Band Teaching Canada II Identities, Cultures, Regions mit dem Titel „A Home Where the Buffalo Roam? Teaching and Challenging the Canadian West“ (mit Alisa Preusser, 2025).
