Lehrstuhl für Amerikanische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft, AIII
Die Forschenden am Lehrstuhl für Amerikanische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft analysieren Literatur, Kultur und Medien der Vereinigten Staaten und Kanadas. Texte, Filme und andere Medien werden in Bezug gesetzt zu kulturwissenschaftlichen Begriffen. Unsere Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen z. B. die politische Kultur der USA, Figurationen des Nationalen und den nordamerikanischen Westernmythos in seinen europäischen Ausprägungen.
Unsere Lehre verfolgt einen interdisziplinären und aktivierenden Ansatz. Wir vermitteln Grundlagen im Fach Amerikanistik und in den Kanada-Studien, ermöglichen Studierenden Einblicke in aktuelle Forschungsthemen und -debatten, und wir analysieren im Seminargespräch aktuelle Beispiele aus der Populärkultur.

CAS fellowship for Stefanie Schäfer
Stefanie Schäfer and Matthias Kohring will be among the second cohort of the University of Mannheim’s CAS (Center for Advanced Studies) fellows in the fall of 2026 to work on their joint research project on distrust.

Stefanie Schäfer will be co-hosting the panel “Re/Generation, Violence, and American Culture Wars: Settler Freedoms in Yellowstone” at the European Association of American Studies (EAAS) biannual conference in Bologna, Italy.

Stefanie Schäfer has been invited as a visiting fellow at York University’s Robarts Centre of Canadian Studies.
Stefanie Schäfer becomes vicepresident of the Association of Canadian Studies
In February, Stefanie Schäfer was elected to serve as vice-president of the Association of Canadian Studies in German-Speaking Countries (GKS) at this year’s conference. The interdisciplinary association assembles Canada-enthusiasts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From 2027, Stefanie will represent the association as president, e.g. at the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS).
