Prof. Dr. Phillip Löffler

Philipp Löffler teaches American literature (Revolutionary Period – Contemporary). His fields of specialization include the history and sociology of reading, literary patronage, the professionalization of author­ship, and the history of US higher education. He is the author of Pluralist Desires: Contemporary Historical Fiction and the End of the Cold War (2015). He has (co)-edited a number of books, most recently The Handbook of American Romanti­cism (2021) and Participation in American Culture and Society (2024). His essays have appeared in venues such as American Literary Realism, Clio, College Literature, Modern Fiction Studies. His current work includes a special issue for American Literature, titled „After the Contemporary,“ and en edited collection on the evolution of the US literary market in the nineteenth century (both forthcoming in 2027).
